Call or e-mail us today for more information. This
circa 1823 farmhouse once a station on the Underground Railroad
was originally the home of John Vickers, a potter and abolitionist.
John Vickers was born in 1780 to Quaker parents in Caln Township. (Of
particular interest is that John Vickers sister, Martha, was the
Great-Great Grandmother of Hannah Milhous Nixon, mother of President Richard
Nixon.) In
1803, John Vickers married Abigail Paxon. Until 1814, he worked with his
father, Thomas, making a variety of fine pottery wares. In 1822, John
Vickers sold his West Whiteland farm and moved his family to this site.
It was here that Vickers Pottery would become a landmark for the next
50 years, and span over four generations of the Vickers family. Vickers
landmark home was transformed into a tavern during the 1970s. It
has delighted customers with superb continental cuisine and outstanding
service for over a quarter century. |
Keeping an Old Tradition Alive.
In
October of 1999, Vickers was acquired by the current proprietor, Julie I. Blank.
Since then she has combined Vickers’ rich history with a creative continental
menu to create a true “old-meets-new” atmosphere.
